Plainfield, Illinois. October 14, 2025. Two years ago, six-year-old Wadee AlFayoumi, a Palestinian American Muslim child, was murdered in a brutal hate crime in Illinois that also left his mother critically injured. His killing, the first anti-Palestinian hate-driven murder on U.S. soil following the escalation of violence in Gaza, exposed the deadly consequences of hate and dehumanization.

Today, Congresswoman Delia Ramirez, alongside members of the U.S. House, introduced the Wadee Resolution, a measure that honors Wadee’s life and calls for education, solidarity, and concrete action to confront anti-Palestinian hate, Islamophobia, and all forms of dehumanization.

“Wadee’s story will forever remind us of what hate can destroy - and what love and community organizing can build,” said Dr. Dilara Sayeed, President of the Muslim Civic Coalition. “Wadee represents every American child, and a resolution in his name reaffirms that each of us deserves to feel safe, proud of our identity and heritage, and free to build a life of dignity and hope.”

“Wadee’s story is not an isolated tragedy,” added Amina Barhumi, Advocacy and Policy Lead for the Muslim Civic Coalition. “His murder reflects dehumanization fueled by political repression, militarization, and U.S. funding of weapons for mass destruction.”

A recent 2025 study by the Institute for Understanding Anti-Palestinian Racism found that 88% of respondents experienced or witnessed anti-Palestinian racism since October 2023, with most reporting fear, isolation, or mental health impacts. The report confirms what communities have long known: that rhetoric and policy rooted in dehumanization create conditions for violence, from a genocide in Gaza to here at home.

“Two years after the cruel murder of Wadee Alfayoumi, a beautiful child full of dreams, his death and his family's pain weigh heavily on my heart. Words matter, and the rise of hate crimes, anti-Palestinian racism, anti-immigrant sentiments, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and hateful rhetoric endangers us all,” said Congresswoman Delia Ramirez. “With the reintroduction of the Wadee Resolution, we stand opposed to hate and affirm our shared humanity. I thank Senators Durbin and Duckworth, Representative Underwood, Wadee's family, and human rights advocates for their leadership.” Read the joint statement.

Muslim Civic Coalition invites the public to visit www.Wadee.org, a national action hub to advance Wadee's legacy that provides educational resources, advocacy tools, and opportunities to sign on to the Wadee Resolution, take action, and amplify his story.

As communities mark this day of remembrance, they are united in one message: Children deserve kites not bombs, justice not genocide, peace not persecution.
